May the road less paved, be the road that you follow.
Welcome to Loose Travels! I’m Marloes (pronounced Mar-loose), the traveller behind the blog. The name Loose Travels reflects my approach to life and travel – a little free-spirited, a little flexible, and never too rigid. I don’t believe in meticulously planned itineraries or following the crowd. For me, the best adventures are the ones that allow room for the unexpected, where each day unfolds naturally, and new experiences are waiting just around the corner.
Whether it’s waking up to the peaceful sounds of the forest, swimming beside majestic whale sharks, or hunting for that elusive plant at the edge of a mountain trail – it’s the planet’s incredible biodiversity that fuels my wanderlust. Off-the-beaten-path places and hidden gems are my happy places. I love taking unpaved roads (literally and metaphorically), because the beauty of travel often lies in the things you don’t expect to find.
That said, the world’s most popular destinations shouldn’t be overlooked. They’ve earned their fame for a reason, and with an open mind and a willingness to explore beyond the obvious, even the most visited spots can offer unique and unforgettable experiences (and are usually a bit easier to get to). Connecting with locals is often the secret to discovering the true heart of any place.
Through Loose Travels, my goal is to share my adventures and experiences with you, offering inspiration and practical tips to help you make the most of your own travels. Whether you’re looking for hidden wildlife treasures, sustainable travel advice, or a fresh perspective on well-known destinations, I hope to inspire you to get out there and explore the world with a sense of wonder and curiosity.
Let’s make room for the unexpected and let the journey unfold!
